Instead of a tree structure of evolution it is more like a big messy ball of branches and shoots that sometimes grow together from other sides of the tree. Pretty much picture an inbred redneck family tree and how it has lots of places where it doesn't fork or doubles back, but instead of mother marrying son or cousin marrying an uncle it is species interbreeding.
A web with offshoots makes more sense to me than a tree.

Yeah but even then it doesn't take into account when species totally unrelated to each other breed and make the distant points connect and create a new branch.
