Having worked in a meat department, I can assure you that many of the frozen turkeys and pre-packaged meat delicacies found in the freezer case have been there a long time. There is no expiration date on them, so why would a company cut into their profits by dumping them? Especially be wary of things that don't seem too popular in an area, i.e., Cornish game hens were ordered about once a year in the store I worked...this means we had some that sat there for about a year, and sometimes longer before they were purchased.
I am not sure how Wal Mart works on this stuff, and they are admittedly busier than my old store, but I am still careful when I buy that stuff!
